Queens Library is a vital borough resource for many of its 2.2 million people. That's why Library Journal recognized us as 2009 Library of the Year, when nearly 840,000 members borrowed more than 23 million items from our branches to enrich their lives. But hard economic times are taking their toll.

Severe budget cuts have caused Queens Library to drastically reduce the purchase of new books, DVDs and other materials for our 62 community libraries. Empty shelves now sit where new books should be. But you can put new books on those shelves!
Right now, all tax-deductible Buy-A-Book gifts go twice as far because they are being matched dollar-for-dollar up to a total of $100,000, thanks to our match campaign with Queens County Savings Bank.*

For each $25 you contribute, we will be able to acquire an additional new library book. We will print your name, or that of a person or organization you designate, on a bookplate in each new book...and you can designate the community library where you want the book or books located.
Buy-A-Book supporters say it is very satisfying. "When I see the diverse population that uses the library...particularly now with the current economic situation, I think about how proud I am to contribute to the library. It’s my way of giving back to my community," says Patrick Chan. Allen and Glenda Maurer add: "Buy-A-Book is a great way to honor friends and rela¬tives. It is a wonderful way to give back something."
Please take a moment to "give back." Give others the knowledge to grow, the excitement of imagination, and the chance to discover. And NOW is the best time because every tax-deductible dollar you give will be matched dollar-for-dollar thanks to our partnership with Queens County Savings Bank.
*Matching funds are provided by the Richmond County Savings Foundation.
