The Children's Library Discovery Center is 14,000 square feet of exciting, stimulating library space for children. The fun and stimulation start at the entrance and continue everywhere a child looks. On the walls! On the floors! Spaces to read! touch! play! create!
Follow the color path to your subject area, uncover books, lists of computer resources, three dimensional objects, light and sound installations and a world of stimulation. There will be rotating interactive museum-quality exhibits. Programs in the Center will excite children and emphasize math, science, engineering, and technology as part of a library experience.
The imagination and learning continue beyond the covers of the books. The Queens Discovery Map shows famous and historic destinations in Queens. Accompanied by sounds such as the trumpet from Louis Armstrong's house, the recognizable icons motivate children to learn more about the places they have visited and want to go.
Spaces for Learning
There are story and program areas, a Children's Cyber Center with computers and a separate Early Childhood Center. This is all within two levels, each with its own Reference Desk!
In addition, it is a multi-lingual learning environment with resources for school work, pleasure reading and lifelong learning. Children can learn about the geography, history, and culture of the places from which they come.
