Message from the President of the Board and the Executive Director
On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff of the Queens Library Foundation, we wish to express our sincere appreciation to our many generous donors and supporters. Private funding is essential. The Queens Library, which is a separate, non-profit corporation, independent of the New York Public and Brooklyn Public Library systems, is not a government entity and must raise private funds for programs and materials. Although government support keeps our doors open, it cannot meet the enormous needs of the Queens Library, which is the number one circulating public library in the nation and fourth in the world! You help make the wide variety of exceptional Queens Library programs and services available to inform, empower, educate and enrich lives.
Libraries share a special place in most people’s history. For those without books at home, the Library is their access to new worlds of experience and resources and to information that is critical to succeeding in life. Queens Library remains true to its original ideals of providing free information for all and service to anyone needing it. When you invest in the future of the Library, you invest in the future of our nation, its children, and all those, of whatever economic and social background, who seek a better life through education and enlightenment.
The Foundation supports many different free and innovative programs for the Library: Toddlers get a head start on the way to reading, older children get help with their homework, teens can get a job helping the public with computers or participate in programs for youth, adults can learn to read and write, new immigrants can learn English, people of all ages attend free cultural and educational programs, author talks and seminars, and everyone benefits from Queens Library’s large collections of books and materials in dozens of languages.
We invite you to visit the Queens Library and see first-hand how your support, no matter what the amount, benefits so many. And if you have questions about the Foundation and the programs it supports or about how you can help, please do not hesitate to contact us at foundation at queenslibrary.org or (718)-480-4273.
